There is nothing like a sunny day at the Chelsea Flower Show to mark the start of summer! This year, as in others, it was a sensory experience wherever we looked.
Here are some of my favourites – ranging from a stunning planting scheme in a show garden, to the delicate copper tree water features in a display on the showground, through to a perfect rose in the Great Pavilion. Click on any of the images to enlarge.
Fabulous shades of white, yellow & orange on display in the LG Eco-City Garden by Hay-Joung Hwang. Plants were chosen specifically for their pollution-reducing ability.
These amazing driftwood sculptures of bears are so life like, created by James Doran-Webb they are a must see every year at Chelsea.
Purple is the colour of the moment, making its appearance here in Chris Beardshaw’s planting design in the Morgan Stanley garden for the NSPCC.
Voted the people’s choice & probably my favourite too – the ‘Welcome to Yorkshire’ garden by Mark Gregory. A wonderfully natural scene of peace & tranquillity you want to literally step into.
Who could resist the peach tones of this perfect rose called ‘Pride and Prejudice’ in the Great Pavilion by Harkness Roses.
The black brick pathway in the ‘Urban Flow Garden’ by Tony Woods ties in beautifully with the angular arch above & brilliantly sets off the green, purple & pink tones in the planting design.
These delicate copper tree water features are not only beautiful but provide a continuous background sound of trickling water.
This attention grabbing peacock, with its yellow & pink floral tail, was part of the ‘Seasonal Beauty Uncaged’ stand, created by NAFAS – no surprise it was awarded a Sliver Gilt!
Mediterranean plants set against a terracotta coloured base of clay make Sarah Price’s M&G garden worthy of her gold medal.
